There are two ways to play the pharmaceutical space without touching vaccines. If you want to benefit from the Defense Production Act, one possible winner is Eastman Kodak (NYSE:KODK). Yes, high-flying and controversial KODK stock. The legacy camera company has been struggling, and President Donald Trump made moves that gave shares new life. Essentially, he announced that the company would receive a federal loan to retool its factories to produce generic pharmaceuticals. On the product list was hydroxychloroquine, a generic medication Trump touted as a Covid-19 treatment.
However, KODK stock has not had an easy time in the stock market. After initially rocketing higher, allegations of insider trading rocked shares. Although an investigation has settled those concerns for now, adding Eastman Kodak to your watch list is not a risk-free endeavor.

The word on The Street in general, suggests a Moderate Buy analyst consensus rating for Moderna with a $147.08 average price target, implying a 19.8% upside from current levels. In a report issued on January 5, Merrill Lynch also maintained a Hold rating on the stock with a $130.00 price target.

My favorite is a metal AM machine maker that was founded by a bunch of MIT alums called Desktop Metal (NYSE:DM). The company’s “secret sauce” is its patented breakthrough technological process called single pass jetting, which enables the company’s layer-by-layer printing process to only have to do “one pass” (other companies have to do multiple passes on each layer). This ultimately results in Desktop Metal printers being the fastest in the industry… by a long shot… which is huge since speed is of utmost importance in assembly lines.
Other names that stand out to me in the Additive Manufacturing 2.0 megatrend are industry leader 3D Systems (NYSE:DDD), AM software provider Materialise (NASDAQ:MTLS), and digital manufacturer Protolabs (NYSE:PRLB).

What’s Driving the Momentum?
The demand for energy sources is expected to rise over time. According to an IEA report, energy demand is expected to grow 1% annually through 2040. It added that 50% of the surplus energy demand will be met by renewables, with solar power becoming the most favorable source by 2040. In fact, some states, including California, are already using solar subsidies to boost solar power adoption.
In solar, I like SunPower (NASDAQ:SPWR) for its unmatched leadership in the premium solar installation category, Maxeon Solar (NASDAQ:MAXN) for its strong technical expertise in manufacturing the world’s best solar panels and SolarEdge (NASDAQ:SEDG) for its dominance in the increasingly important solar optimizers and inverters market.
For hydrogen, I like Plug Power (NASDAQ:PLUG) as the Hydrogen Economy leader building on its early dominance in supplying hydrogen fuel cells to the materials handling market, Bloom Energy (NYSE:BE) for its ability to leverage fuel cells to help businesses generate sustainable and cost-effective off-grid power, and Ballard Power (NASDAQ:BLDP) because the company is emerging as a mini-Plug Power of sorts in the transportation market (providing fuel cells into transit end-markets).
Finally, in cannabis, I’m most bullish on Canopy Growth (NASDAQ:CGC) because of its multi-billion-dollar cash balance that gives it unmatched firepower to invest in the emerging marijuana industry, GrowGeneration (NASDAQ:GRWG) because this small retailer is rapidly turning into the “Home Depot of Cannabis” and WM Holdings (NASDAQ:SSPK) for its Weedmaps platform that is already established as the “Google of Marijuana.”
These nine stocks represent the highest-quality, biggest-upside plays on the solar, hydrogen and cannabis megatrends.
You are then a long term investor

Last but not least, NIO also plans to show an improved version of its battery swap station on Saturday. The new stations will contain more battery packs than the current design, and NIO said they can be built at lower cost, which will allow it to accelerate deployment. The company had about 150 stations in operation as of its most recent update last fall. It expects to add "nearly one new station per day" in the coming year.
The subscription plan is only a few months old, but it's already popular. NIO said last weekend that over 40% of customers who bought a NIO in December opted for the battery subscription option.
